

Silvatech Consulting Ontario Ltd. was recently awarded the Wabagoon Forest Inventory contract by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. The project covers 7,284 km2 of forest land in NW Ontario requiring some 1,455 field calibration plots. It will be classified with a combination of automated remote sensing and manual softcopy stereo interpretation techniques from multi-spectral, airborne, ADS 80 digital imagery.
The Silvatech Group has been contracted by the Sustainable Ecosystems Working Goup (SEWG) of the Cumulative Environmental Management Association (CEMA) to prepare a document that synthesizes and summarizes key workshop outcomes, including an account of the participant dialogue and decisions amongst SEWG and other participants, in a linear footprint management planning initiative; that identifies and assesses linear footprint management practices, tools, and strategies relevant to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB); and to facilitate and document a workshop to encourage dialogue amongst participants involving SEWG and other participants in this footprint management planning initiative to identify and select linear footprint management tools, approaches, and strategies that could be applied in the RMWB.
The Silvatech Group has been contracted by the Yukon Government, Canada to identify and map surface areas with abundant caribou lichen forage, in the Fortymile Caribou Herd winter range located west of Dawson City, Yukon. Silvatech will use remote sensing analysis of Landsat 5 Satellite Imagery, to identify areas within the study area covered by caribou lichen forage, and calculate the abundance of lichen forage across the study area.
The Silvatech Group was awarded the cumulative effects land use modelling contract for the South Saskatechewan Regional Plan of southern Alberta. Silvatech is modeling the social, economic and environmental impacts, resulting from rapid growth and expansion in the Southern Alberta. The area of interest covers about 8 million hectares from Airdre south to the US border. Silvatech is working closely with the Regional Advisory Council of the Land Use Secretariat, several Government Ministries, and the Regional Planning Team in carrying out the exercise. The data and assumptions used, reflect the collaborative input of many Provincial Ministries and sector representatives and are also informed by previous studies and initiatives. The assessment is at a regional level providing historical trends, current state analysis and future strategy forecasting to assist planners and policy makers in the implementation of the Alberta Land Stewardship Act.
